A new year!! YEAH!! I would have written earlier, but Caelan and I just got home from our Christmas vacation. We went to Arizona to spend Christmas with Grandpa and Grandma Dick (we were there from the 19th to the 27th) . Then we headed over to California to spend a few days there. Caelan and I ended up staying for almost three weeks. We stayed to help Mom (Grandma Sorensen) and just enjoy some time with her. Sean had to get back for school and work (and boy did we miss him for the week and a half that he was away). Well, Caelan had her first Christmas. She got all sorts of little toys and clothes -nothing too big or extravagant (I mean she didn't really have a clue about anything anyways). Santa Claus left balloons on the living room floor on Christmas morning, and that along with the ribbons and wrapping paper was as exciting as any of her gifts. She has gotten pretty attached to Mommy and Daddy lately, so she didn't let people hold her as easily as before, but after a while she warmed up. After all of the excitement on Christmas morning, she conked out for 3 whole hours (something which never ever happens). We must have worn her out. While in California I think she discovered her vocal chords (at least at a new level). She started screaming all of the time (not crying, just being really loud). She screamed and screamed for about a week straight. It was super cute and pretty comical, but by the end of the day it suddenly seemed silent in the house when she went to bed (which was nice sometimes). After the first week, she calmed down a little, but she still has her moments. She had her first little accident (besides the small bumps and falls she has taken). Her aunt Kyra was holding her and going up the stairs. I guess she lost her balance, and Caelan fell. She hit the wall and then the floor. She cried and screamed for a while, but after some yummy food and a bath, she was [me. She got a little goose egg on the side of her head, but she was good to go. I almost felt worse for Kyra -she felt so horrible, but things just happen, and babies are tough. We are back home, and I am going to have to get used to the quiet. I have been away with bunches of people in and out of the house for the past month, and now it is just Caelan (who is asleep) and me (Sean is at work) -almost too quiet. We will probably head back to California in a couple of weeks. Mom (Grandma Sorensen) is coming closer and closer to the end of her time here on earth with us. We want to go back in time to say some goodbyes and be there for family support. What a blessing it has been to have Caelan (the first and only grandchild thus far -but Garrett and Melanie have one on the way) around for Mom during this time. I know she has been a great source of happiness and joy in a difficult time -I guess that's part of being a baby ... bringing happiness to everyone.
